I dam sure hope so.
He can't go anywhere. He wouldn't if he could, not this year anyway.
I think Lane will be just fine in Tennessee.
Lane would have been a great coach at Oakland if it wasn't for that piece of [censored] Al Davis. He's one old man i'd kick down a flight of stairs

Im not sure about that. Kiffin's personnel in Oakland wasnt exactly having glowing reviews. Hes lucky he got canned to be honest. Hes in a much better situation now. The only bad part about it is where hes unproven, fans wont be as patient with him. When you are rebuilding a team, its tough to do it in your first year and most fans want instant gratification. He is lucky that Fulmer hasnt left the cupboard bare and maybe he can be a little bit like Meyer with Zook's players but looking at that offense, it looks like it will be a 2 year job to get that unit turned around. They need an influx of talent and the only way to do that is with young players, i.e. freshmen. Saban was fortunate at Alabama to be able to put a young group of skill position players around a veteran oline and qb. At UT, they have to start with QB and thats a tough position to start with. Lucky for him though, he should inherit a pretty decent defense.
Thats great news!!!
If people don't like the Kiffins well stop rooting for the Vols! I'll admit I had a hard time watching the Vols while Phil was on the side lines, but I'll respect everything hes done for the UT football program.
I really think UT has a great future ahead of them and I can't wait till the 09 season!!!!!!
I'm not a diehard fan of UT but I like to watch them play now and again. I believe that Lane Kiffin was a good hire for them for a few reasons:
1. He was one of the main recruiters for Pete Carroll at USC around the time that they brought in all those athletes and won the national championship. If he is a really hard working recruiter, I believe that will serve him well.
2. Which leads to my next point....he has strong ties to an area of recruiting which many coaches may not have in the SEC... with the exception of Urban Meyer who probably built a strong tie to the west while he was at Utah. When it comes to the state of Florida,...you are looking at the Gators, Seminoles, Canes, Georgia Bulldogs under Mark Richt along with Saban and the Tide and their rise now. Spurrier is probably on his last few at SC. Rich Brooks is at Kentucky... and while he has turned that school around a little bit... he will never be able to recruit great there.... dont know that anyone can save a very special type of coach. Then you have Vanderbilt... and like Kentucky... save a very special coach with some kind of magic... they will be above or below average.. but they will be Vanderbilt. Kiffin comes in with a strong tie to USC and the California pipeline and helping them become a national power... he has strong ties to Pete Carroll....and being that his father does coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and John Gruden... he has some in-road ties to Florida.
3. Which leads to another point. He has been apart of a team and a program which has won a national championship. He knows what it takes to get there and he knows the type of athletes that it takes to build a winner. He knows what it takes to build NFL type athletes.
4. While he has never been a college head coach, he was a head coach of the Oakland Raiders and they did improve while under him.
5. There is a lot about him that is unknown... but the positives about this hire is that... what we do know of him is that he is young, energetic and has a lot of strong ties that Tennessee needs to grow and progress further.
6. To me, Tennessee did not get rid of Fulmer because he is a bad coach. Tennessee got rid of Fulmer because Fulmer took the program to another level. When he won the national championship in 1998, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Kentucky.....not long after the Vols won the championship... these schools cleaned house as well. All these schools went with a youthful, energetic, charismatic type that supercharged their program. I heard that Fulmer wasn't replaced because of coaching... but because of marketing. I believe this is true. And if Kiffin proves himself out and does some great things at Tennessee, I believe you will see a resurgence of the Vols in the future.

Great read
Lane and Monte Kiffin both at the REAL UT will mean BIG things happening within 2 years.
Fulmer already has a top 5 recruiting class coming in and the NFL Pro aspect will bring in lots more top prospects with 2 NFL coaches to train them up for the next level.
It's actually logical that Monte would want to retire from the very long NFL seasons and have all his family together in the beautiful Tennessee foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains where he can still Coach the "D" and help his Son get off to a good start in a much more relaxed atmosphere with lots more time off.
There would also be LOTS of top College assistant and position coaches that would then love to go coach at Tennessee just to make a name and get some "inside" introductions to NFL people to try to move on into the NFL a few years down the road.
I would think that many of the top High school prospects would love to go play for 2 NFL Coaches and would see that opportunity as their best chance at a NFL career.
OK, I talked myself right into being all for this deal !
LOL !
GO VOLS !!!
GO TITANS !!!
